A quarter of Khakassia residents are not provided with clean drinking water

Almost a quarter of the population of Khakassia does not have access to safe drinking water. Non-compliance with the norms was found in five districts of the republic.

Only 75.8% of the population of Khakassia are provided with drinking water that meets safety requirements, the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor reported. We are talking about 406.76 thousand people.

Water does not meet hygienic standards in Altaisky, Ust-Abakansky, Bogradsky, Shirinsky and Beysky districts.

“The non-compliance of drinking water with regulatory requirements for sanitary and chemical indicators is due to the high content of nitrates, iron, sulfates, fluorides in water, general hardness (dissolved salts of alkaline earth metals: calcium and magnesium) and general mineralization (total salt content, mainly due to chlorides). , sulfates of calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium), which, as a rule, is associated with the natural hydrogeological features of aquifers, ”the Rospotrebnadzor explained.

Nitrates in drinking water lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular and blood diseases in children and adults. “The toxicity of nitrates in detectable concentrations is not so great as to cause acute poisoning, but with prolonged use of such water, chronic intoxication may develop, eventually leading to one or another pathology,” the supervisory authority added.

In Khakassia, a relationship has been established between water quality and heart disease, as well as problems with the gastrointestinal tract among residents.
