The Supreme Court recognized the as legal as the former student of Moscow State University Barbara Karaulova (Alexander Ivanova), sentenced to 4.5 years of general regime for an attempt to join the Islamic State organization banned in Russia. This is reported by Interfax.
"The verdict of the Moscow District Military Court of December 22, 2016 in relation to Ivanova Alexandra Pavlovna to leave unchanged, appeals are not satisfied," the judicial board for military personnel said. Thus, Karaulova’s sentence entered into legal force. In the near future, it will be transferred to the place of serving the sentence.
The defense of Karaulova asked the court to cancel the sentence as unreasonable and illegal. The appeal emphasized that a month before the detention of Karaulov gave all her electronic devices to her parents in order not to communicate with her virtual lover from IG. According to lawyers, the court must consider this as a voluntary refusal to commit a crime
Lawyer Sergei Badamshin said that with respect to Karaulova a “provocation by the FSB officers” was committed, which did not receive an assessment of the court. “In fact, having received consent to communication with Barbara, communication with the family, staying in the family of the family, knowing the condition of the client, they gave her a tablet and said - write,” the lawyer noted.
Badamshin reminded the court of the psychological state of Karaulova. After returning from Turkey, she was treated in medical institutions and took antidepressants.
Lawyer Karinna Moskalenko said that a violation of Article 7 of the European Convention on Human Rights, that is, criminal actions, was committed against her client.
On December 22, the College of the Moscow District Military Court, chaired by Alexander Ababkov , found Karaulov guilty of part 1 of Article 30 - Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization). Karaulova herself did not plead guilty. She insisted that she went to Syria to her beloved man, and not for joining IG.
On May 27, 2015, Karaulova, who was carried away by the ideas of radical Islam, left the house . According to investigators, a student on the Internet mixer "came into contact with an unidentified person" to join the Badr group - one of the structures of the IG under the command of a certain Abdul Khakin. It is alleged that by becoming a member of the Badr, a student "could carry out sabotage activities in Syria and Europe by self -gaps." The accusation emphasized that Karaulova knew foreign languages and has combat training.
Having agreed with the "unidentified person," the case said, the student flew from Moscow to Istanbul. There she was met and transported to a conspiratorial apartment to the city of Kilis near the Syrian border. On June 4, 2015, the student was detained in this city, and a week later they delivered to Moscow.
The Investigative Committee conducted a preliminary investigation on the facts of the possible participation of Karaulova in the activities of the extremist community and its recruitment. At the end of July 2015, the department refused to initiate proceedings against the student. After that, she changed her name and surname, receiving documents in the name of Alexandra Ivanova.
However, on October 23 of the same year, the FSB aroused the case of terrorism against the guard. On the 27th, she was detained, and the next day was arrested. Since then, it has been contained in the SIZO-2 of the central headquarters of the FSIN "Lefortovo", unofficially controlled by the FSB.
In November, in the first weeks of investigation, the interests of Karaulova represented the appointed lawyers. At the same time, part of the interrogations was conducted in their absence. In February, the student abandoned the confession given at the initial stage of the investigation. In November, at court, she confirmed this refusal.
On December 21, the former student asked her last word about condescension and called her actions a “big mistake”. “It seems to me that I am already quite punished and dream of atone my guilt,” the defendant emphasized. Karaulova also apologized to the FSB.
