In Russia, from the beginning of next month, a temporary procedure will be introduced for equipping used cars imported into the country with the ERA-GLONASS system. It will operate from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad until the Russian government develops a permanent one. This was stated by the interim general director of JSC Glonass, Andrei Zheregelya, in Vladivostok at a meeting with representatives of the automotive business of Primorye, the website of the regional administration reports .
As you know, on January 1, the rules for registering foreign cars in Russia changed - the installation of the ERA-GLONASS system became a mandatory condition. However, there were no companies in the Far East that legally could engage in this type of activity, and as a result, about 1.5 thousand cars were stuck at customs.
After federal officials intervened in the situation, customs
started issuing documents. Since February 17, more than 1.1 thousand have been issued in Primorye
technical passports. However, on February 19, residents of Vladivostok held a protest against the mandatory installation of the ERA-GLONASS system on used foreign cars.
“I want to emphasize that the authorities have taken all possible measures to resolve the problem. The necessary decisions have been made. Title cards for cars imported before February 15 have been issued,” Primorsky Territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky said on Wednesday.
The management of JSC Glonass spoke about the new procedure for equipping used foreign cars with an emergency call system.
"The owner of the car will have to purchase the system from JSC Glonass, committing to install it on the car. The VIN number, body number and device ID are entered into the ERA-GLONASS GAIS, then with this device the car owner receives a safety certificate for the design of the vehicle in a special laboratory and, having gone through all the procedures at customs, receives a PTS,” explained the interim CEO of the company Andrey Zheregelya
Further, according to him, within 10 days the car owner must install the system in centers certified by the company and register the car with the traffic police.
