A billionaire Oleg Deripaska is suing due to contracts with the former head of the campaign headquarters Donald Trump Paul Manafort. This was reported to "Interfax" by the official representative of Deripaska.
“Manafort at one time really provided Oleg Deripaska with an investment consulting in the framework of contracts, which concerned exclusively business interests by Oleg Deripaska. Currently, these contracts with Manafort are the subject of the trial, ”he said.
Earlier, Associated Press reported that the businessman paid Manafort at least $ 40 million in 2006-2009 for “work in the interests” of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the sources of the agency, Manafort developed a strategy that was aimed at “undermining” the anti -Russian opposition in the territory of the former USSR. The Manafort plan also provided for the influence on politicians, businessmen and the media in the USA, Europe and the post -Soviet republics in the interests of the Putin government, even in the event of a deterioration in relations between Moscow and Washington.
Manafort himself confirmed that he worked for Deripaska, but rejected the accusations of the illegality of this work. He explained that he represented the interests of the businessman in those countries where he had investments, but cooperation did not include the promotion of the political interests of the Russian Federation.
According to AP, Deripaska’s trial with Manafort in 2014 were related to the investments of the Russian businessman in the Ukrainian television company Black Sea Cable. The billionaire handed over to Manafort about $ 19 million for investing in an asset, but then he refused to report to Deripaska on the use of funds. At the beginning of 2016, representatives of the businessman openly accused Manafort of fraud, but after Trump’s victory in the presidential election, they said that they were no longer discussing this topic.
