In the warehouse of tank and artillery shells near the city of Balakli, the Kharkov region was committed by a sabotage. This was announced at his FB page by the Deputy Prosecutor General - the chief military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios.

At 2:46 am local time (3:46 Moscow time), an explosion occurred on the arsenal, after which a fire began, causing detonation of 125- and 152-mm shells at several warehouse sites.

Later, the Ukrainian Pravda reports , the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak said that there were no victims as a result of the incident.

The total area of ​​the arsenal is 368 hectares; 138 thousand tons of shells are stored on it. As the public service in emergency situations informed , 19 thousand people were evacuated - residents of Balakley, as well as neighboring villages of Verbovka and Yakovenkovo. The territory within a radius of 7 kilometers from the detonation site is declared a danger zone; On the roads installed checkpoints.

The State Border Service strengthened the control regime in the southeastern direction.

As Poltorak spoke at a briefing in the morning, the fire continues in the third of the Arsenal territory. The dispersal of shells is from 1 to 2 kilometers. To predict when it was possible to cope with the fire, the minister found it difficult to refer to the fact that it depends on the large number of factors.

At the same time, Poltorak noted that the sabotage did not cause serious damage to Ukraine’s defense capabilities, since after the start of the ATO, the most ammunition stored in this arsenal was moved to other objects, as well as directly to the battles zone.

As Interfax-Ukraine reports , the SBU opened the case under Article 113 of the Criminal Code of the country (sabotage), which provides for from 10 to 15 years of colony with or without confiscation.
