Around the hour of March 23, in the very center of Kiev, near the Premier-Palace Hotel (its possible owner of the New Gazeta called the former State Duma deputy from United Russia Alexander Babakov), two hundred people surrounded the place of the former State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Communist Party Denis Voronenkov. It was covered with a black film, the shoes of the murdered stuck out from under it; A puddle of blood spread under the body. In Denis Voronenkov, according to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, three bullets hit: two in the stomach and one in the neck.
In Premier Palace, Voronenkov was going to meet Ilya Ponomarev, another former deputy of the State Duma, also hiding in Ukraine.
At the site of the murder was the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko; Voronenkov’s wife, a former State Duma deputy from “United Russia” (they worked together in the sixth convocation), and opera singer Maria Maksakova, arrived there. Both refused comments-like almost all officials who came to the Premier Palace. The short comment was given only by the head of the Kyiv police Andrei Krishchenko; But he also told what was known from the very beginning: two wounded are a guard of Voronenkov and Killer.

There were many onlookers in the crowd, mostly young people.
“I think this was specially done to destabilize the situation for“ euro [vision], ”said one.
“It is interesting that the Russians put him on the wanted list,” thought another (the RF IC declared Voronenkov on the federal and international wanted list on the raider seizure of the building in the center of Moscow, and the Basmanny court authorized his absentee arrest). - Obviously, they knew that he was walking with the guard.
“These are some kind of volunteer battalions, such as“ Aydara ”, they can take and go to Kyiv easily and do anything,” the elderly man reasoned emotionally.
- He is from Russia? - said the guy. - Ah, then it is clear, the FSB - it is.
Outside of the crowd, there was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, adviser to the Minister of the Interior Anton Gerashchenko. He answered the questions of journalists that "he did not come here."
- And how is Maria [Maksakova]? Why doesn't she talk to the press? - Herashchenko asked the journalist.
- Sorry, how would you behave? - Gerashchenko answered with irritation. - Her wife had just killed. Does she need to give a press conference right away? She needs to come to herself, with her the investigative actions need to be carried out.
Until recently, Voronenkov and his Maria Maksakova moved around Kyiv without protection. On February 16, 2017, Voronenkov gave an interview with Gramydsk TV (Ukrainian public broadcaster) in the "Communication Hab" "Media Khaba", in a building located in the center of Kiev. He came there together with his wife; True, the day before he told reporters on the phone that he was careful about any meetings: "Well, you yourself understand what can happen."

During an interview, Voronenkov was asked if he realized that Kyiv is not the safest place for him; The former State Duma deputy grinned and answered: "I [nothing of the kind of] threatens."
One of the last public events at which Voronenkov appeared was the show of the film by Vladimir Kara-Murza Nemtsov, which took place on February 27 in the same Media Khab. The former deputy, together with his wife, sat in the front row, then there was no guard with them either.
Soon after the murder, at a joint briefing with the Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko, the former Russian deputy Ilya Ponomarev said that the Ukrainian intelligence agencies proposed state protection both to him and Voronenkov. Ponomarev refused, and Voronenkov agreed. Maria Maksakova previously confirmed Medusa that the security of the family appeared only on February 28, 2017.
Ponomarev said that Voronenkov had a lot of information about the representatives of the authorities in the Russian Federation and their “financial flows”.
Lutsenko himself called the murder of "the familiar witness of the witness for the Kremlin." “According to the documents, he [Killer] is a citizen of Ukraine,” said Lutsenko at a briefing. - The documents were under him. Now we are checking whether these documents were real. Actually, I rarely met Killer, who had an official certificate with me. And this one took. Therefore, I am talking about the probability of a new “Yarosh business card” , ”said Lutsenko.
What kind of official certificate was found in Killer, Lutsenko did not say. According to RBC-Ukraine, it was a certificate of a participant in hostilities issued by the National Guard of Ukraine. The killer himself on March 23 died in a hospital from wounds received in a shootout with the guard Denis Voronenkov.
