Around the hour of March 23, in the very center of Kiev, near the Premier-Palace Hotel (its possible owner of the New Gazeta called the former State Duma deputy from United Russia Alexander Babakov), two hundred people surrounded the place of the former State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Communist Party Denis Voronenkov. Without protection

Until recently, Voronenkov and his Maria Maksakova moved around Kyiv without protection. He came there together with his wife; True, the day before he told reporters on the phone that he was careful about any meetings: "Well, you yourself understand what can happen."

During an interview, Voronenkov was asked if he realized that Kyiv is not the safest place for him; The former State Duma deputy grinned and answered: "I [nothing of the kind of] threatens."

One of the last public events at which Voronenkov appeared was the show of the film by Vladimir Kara-Murza Nemtsov, which took place on February 27 in the same Media Khab. The former deputy, together with his wife, sat in the front row, then there was no guard with them either.

Soon after the murder, at a joint briefing with the Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko, the former Russian deputy Ilya Ponomarev said that the Ukrainian intelligence agencies proposed state protection both to him and Voronenkov. Ponomarev refused, and Voronenkov agreed. Maria Maksakova previously confirmed Medusa that the security of the family appeared only on February 28, 2017.

Ponomarev said that Voronenkov had a lot of information about the representatives of the authorities in the Russian Federation and their “financial flows”.

The killer himself on March 23 died in a hospital from wounds received in a shootout with the guard Denis Voronenkov.
