The Ministry of Justice stopped the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia

The Ministry of Justice suspended the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia in connection with suspicion of extremist activity. It is reported by "Interfax."

On March 16, the Ministry of Justice of Russia filed a lawsuit against the Supreme Court on the recognition of the "managerial center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia" with an extremist organization, a ban on its activities and liquidation. The lawsuit will be discussed on April 5th.

The organization said that the ban on the activities of the Center for Jehovah's Witnesses could lead to the criminal prosecution of believers only for the confession of their religion, including the joint reading of the Bible, singing and prayer.

In 2016, the US State Department, in its annual report on religious freedoms, said that in Russia there is a systematic pressure on religious minorities, and the Prosecutor General’s prosecutor’s office demands to close all 406 local religious associations and more than 2500 Jehovah's witnesses on charges of extremist activity.
