The government removed Fortov from the post of President of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Vladimir Fortov was relieved of the post of President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The corresponding order is published on the website of the Government of Russia.

Valery Kozlov, vice-president of the Academy of Sciences, will act as head of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to media reports, before the autumn elections of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Forters will remain a simple academician.

Fortov’s powers should have expired on March 27. The general meeting of the choice of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences will be held in November. Until that time, Forters had to occupy their post. He himself was against the extension of his powers, but academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences voted for this decision.

Fortov told reporters that the Academy lost its institutions and funding allocated to them, and called the bureaucratization of science for science workers. In response to this, Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia Arkady Dvorkovich called on RAS employees not to complain about pressure from officials.
