Mongolia will not build hydroelectric power station on rivers flowing into Baikal, including Selenga, said Sergei Ivanov, a special representative of the Russian President on environmental protection, ecology and transport.

“I know this problem well: the Mongols were going to build a hydroelectric power station there on the seleng. It will not be this, ”Ivanova quotes RIA Novosti.

As Taiga.info previously reported, Mongolia plans to build several hydroelectric power stations in the Selengi basin on its territory. While projects are not implemented, their financing is frozen. The blocking of the selenga and its tributaries by the dams, according to experts, can turn into a change in the intracity flow, which will negatively affect the Baikal ecosystem, so the Russian side has repeatedly spoke out against the construction of the hydroelectric power station. Now the Mongols hold hearings on their projects in Buryatia.
