Moldova President initiated a referendum on the expansion of his powers

Moldova President Igor Dodon signed a decree on the appointment of a referendum on four issues. It is reported by Sputnik Moldova.

The first question will concern the president’s vesting with the additional powers to dissolve the parliament and the appointment of the date of early parliamentary elections. Also at the referendum, a reduction in the number of deputies from 101 to 71 will be discussed.

In addition, citizens of the country will be invited to decide whether to replace the subject “History of the Romanians” with “History of Moldova” in educational institutions.

Finally, the referendum will be issued a question about the cancellation of the law on the "return of the decorated billion euros from the banking system." We are talking about the case in September 2015, when the three largest banks of the country did not return 13 billion lei (38.9 billion rubles) issued by the National Bank under the guarantees of the government.

“I tried to solve all these problems in parliament. I made these proposals to the parliament, but they block all initiatives. I do not see another way out, except to turn to the people, ”said Igor Dodon.

The referendum was scheduled for September 24, 2017.
