Putin fired Russia's representative to the ECHR
President Vladimir Putin dismissed Georgy Matyushkin, Russia's Commissioner to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), from his post. The corresponding decree was published on the official portal of legal information.
From 1993 to 1995, Georgy Matyushkin worked as a lawyer at the Moscow City Bar Association “Klishin and Partners”, then until 2000 he was deputy chairman of the presidium of the Interterritorial Bar Association “Klishin and Partners”. Since 2000, he served as deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Chuvashia, and since 2002, he headed the Volga District Inspectorate of the Main Control Directorate of the President.
In 2004, Matyushkin was appointed to the position of assistant to the presidential plenipotentiary representative in the Volga Federal District, and from December 2005 to June 2008 he worked as deputy plenipotentiary representative. In August 2008, by presidential decree, Matyushkin was appointed to the post of Russian representative to the ECHR.
