Officially, the Investigative Committee did not confirm the initiation of the murder case against Voronenkov. The lawyer of the former deputy, Andrei Grivtsov, in a conversation with the agency, noted that he was not notified of the initiation of this case.

Voronenkov was shot dead in the center of Kyiv on March 23. A former deputy's security guard wounded the alleged killer, Ukrainian citizen Pavel Parshov. Parshov subsequently died in hospital.
