The police requested the International Society "Memorial" to provide CCTV footage from March 26. Vedomosti writes about this.
The newspaper cites a request to the executive director of Memorial, Elena Zhemkova, which states that “in connection with the official need that has arisen and the conduct of an investigation based on the material of KUSP No. 12613 of March 26, 2017,” it is necessary to provide copies of video surveillance cameras for the period from 11:00 to 20:00 on March 26.
Zhemkova told Vedomosti that the video recording of March 26 was not saved because after some time a new recording was written over the old one. "We checked, the recording for March 26 has already been erased. Archiving is very expensive. Tomorrow we will pass this response to the police," the publication quotes the executive director of Memorial.
Interestingly, as Zhemkova found out, the Novaya Opera theater, which is next to the Memorial building, did not receive a similar request from the police. Zhemkova, to whom the newspaper refers, does not rule out that the police have "some special interest in Memorial."
Earlier it was reported that a district police officer came to one of the business centers near the Belorusskaya metro station together with employees of the Center for Combating Extremism, and they also asked about the recordings from external surveillance cameras from March 26 from 1 p.m. to night. At the same time, as OVD-Info was told, the employees of the Center "E" were talking on the phone, apparently with colleagues, about the results of the inspection, from which it followed that such inspections were being conducted in other places.
