The ECHR awarded 50 thousand euros to the father of a demonstrator shot by riot police in Dagestan

The ECHR ordered Russia to pay 50 thousand euros compensation for non -pecuniary damage to the resident of Makhachkala Yarmet Nugmetov, whose son Murad Nugmetov was shot dead by riot police in 2006 during the acceleration of a protest rally in the aul of the Miskinja of the Dokuzparinsky district of Dagestan. The decision is published on the court website.

Russia was found guilty of violation of Article 2 (right to life) of the European Convention.

A complaint to the ECHR was filed back in July 2008. The interests of the applicant were represented by lawyers Karinna Moskalenko and Ksenia Kostromina.

The rally, held on April 25, 2006, participated in residents of different auls of the Dokuzparinsky district. The audience demanded the resignation of the head of the district Kerimkhan Abasov, accusing him and his subordinates of corruption.

As the "Caucasian knot" conveyed , two companies of riot police were sent from Makhachkala, armed with firearms, armed with special equipment. The security forces shot demonstrators. 33-year-old Nugmetov died on the spot; Two more protesters - Elman Akhmedkhanov and Zeynal Gadzhimov - died in the following days in hospitals. The remaining four wounded survived. After overclocking, the residents gathered several automatic cartridges at the action site.

In addition, tear gas, smoke bombs and light -school grenades were used against the protesters.

In response to the murders, the demonstrators began to throw riot police stones. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Dagestan, 11 security officials were injured.

74 protesters were detained. They issued administrative protocols on them.

Specific guilty of the deaths of demonstrators were not established.
