The complex of works on the restoration of the Shukhov TV tower may begin next year, said the head of the Moscow Department of Cultural Heritage, Alexey Emelyanov.
“Last year, emergency work was completed on the Shukhov Tower and, today, its condition is not in danger. Now, taking into account the work carried out, the restoration project is being adjusted. After this, next year, we plan to begin the restoration itself,” said Emelyanov He is quoted by Interfax .
He recalled that during the emergency work, a so-called “power frame” was assembled inside the tower, which supports the tiers of the tower. The cost of emergency work was estimated at almost 120 million rubles.
The head of the department also said that various options for the further use of the tower are currently being considered after all work is completed. “One of the options is to transfer the tower to the Polytechnic Museum to open an additional branch,” said Emelyanov.
The Shukhov Tower, built in 1919-1922, is the most famous of the buildings of the Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov. It is a world-famous monument of engineering; the unique design solutions developed by Shukhov are still used in the construction of high-rise buildings. During its existence, the tower was never seriously restored and found itself in disrepair .
Let us recall that in 2014 the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications prepared a scandalous bill on moving the Shukhov Tower to a new location and carrying out repair and restoration work “in restoration mode.” However, the majority of specialists and urban defenders came out strongly against the dismantling and relocation of the tower, demanding its preservation in its current form on a historical site. Ordinary Muscovites also voted for this.
