In Colombia, more than 150 people were killed and 400 injured as a result of flooding

At least 154 people have died in the city of Mocoa in southwestern Colombia as a result of flooding that provoked landslides and mudflows, according to the BBC, citing President Juan Manuel Santos.

Earlier it was reported about the death of 127 people. 400 people were injured and 220 are missing. Such data are provided by the Associated Press with reference to the Colombian Red Cross.

The flooding was caused by heavy rains, as a result of which the level in the Mocoa River and its tributaries increased. Some residents of the city managed to evacuate when it became known about the rise in the river level. According to local authorities, 17 blocks of the city were destroyed.
