An explosion occurred in the suburbs of Paris, at least 20 people were injured.

The emergency occurred on Saturday evening during a carnival in the commune Wilpent near Paris, BFMTV reports.

According to initial data, three people were seriously injured. According to AFP, one of the victims is the mayor of Wilpent.

The cause of the explosion is specified. TASS, citing local radio, reports that the incident was not a terrorist attack. A pyrotechnic device exploded, which was supposed to be used during a traditional carnival for children.

Interfax reports that the festival set fire to a scarecrow - a large figure made of straw and sticks. However, for some reason, the flame escaped from control, after which an explosion occurred.
