Awarded Astrid Lindgren Prize

Today, April 4, a laureate of the 2017 Astrid Lindgren International Memory of Memory for Memory for Contribution to the Development of Children's and Youth Literature was declared in Stockholm. He was the German illustrator Wolf Erlbruh.

One of the most famous works by Wolf Erlbruch is illustrations for the world bestseller of Werner Holtzvart “The Little Mole, who wanted to know who had made his head” (1994).

“Wolf Erlbruh makes existential issues available and understandable to the reader of any age,” the Jury of the Prize said in a statement, which also notes in the artist’s works “Humor and warmth, deeply rooted in the ideals of humanism”.

The International Memory Astrid Lindgren, founded by the Sweden government in 2002, is the world's largest reward in the field of children's literature: its prize fund is 5 million Swedish crowns (about $ 562 thousand).

Writers, illustrators, publishers and readers, whose works convey the spirit of works by Astrid Lindgren, can be nominated for the award. This season, among the nominees were Russian writers Arthur Givargizov, Nina Dashevskaya and Vladislav Krapivin and illustrators Sergey Lyubaev and Alexander Trantst.

Last year, Astrid Lindgren received the American-British writer Meg Rozoff.
