James Rosenquist died

On March 31, in New York, at the age of 83, the American artist James Rosenquist, one of the largest representatives of the pop art, died.

James Rosenquist was born in 1933, in 1952–1954 he studied painting at the University of Minnesota, in 1955–57 he was a scholarship holder of the New York Students League, and in the late 1950s he earned a living, painting signs and billboards.

The techniques used in the creation of advertising images were applied in his work. In the first half of the 1960s, the first personal exhibitions of Rosenquist were held in the Manhattan Gallery Green Gallery, he met Andy Warhol and Roem Liechtenstein.

In 1965, the F-111 work, consisting of 23 panels with a total length of more than 26 m, brought the artist World fame. Subsequently, it was shown at the Venetian Biennale.

The most famous works of James Rosenquist are also the three-part work “The Swimmer in the Econo-Mist” , created for the Guggenheim Museum in Berlin, and the picture for the ceiling of the Shayo Palace in Paris.

The artist’s retrospects took place in 1968 in the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, in 1972 at the Museum of American Art of Whitney in New York and at the Walraf Richartz Museum in Cologne and in 2003-at the Museum of Elegant Arts in Houston, and then in Huggenhaim museums in New York and Bilbao. In 1991, a large exhibition of Rosenquist was held in the central house of an artist in Moscow.
