870 years ago, on April 4, 1147, according to the Ipatiev Chronicle, Prince Yuri Vladimirovich Dolgoruky of Suzdal held a great feast in honor of his ally Prince Svyatoslav Olgovich of Novgorod-Seversky in Moscow. This date of the first mention of Moscow in the sources is taken as the day of its foundation.
