The court arrested the former head of Udmurtia, accused of bribery

The Basmanny District Court arrested the former head of Udmurtia, Alexander Solovyov, accused under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code (receipt of a bribe by an official holding a public position on an especially large scale), reports . Dozhd

The investigation asked for such a preventive measure; Solovyov himself did not admit his guilt and, according to the investigator, refused to testify.

According to investigators, in 2014–2016, Solovyov received 139 million rubles from companies involved in the construction of bridges across the Kama and Bui rivers. For this, he promised to “ensure extraordinary and immediate payment for the work performed from the federal and regional budgets, as well as the allocation of licenses for the geological study of the subsoil area and for exploration, as well as the extraction of sand and sand-gravel mixture.”

At the same time, Soloviev received most of the bribe in money, and 2.7 million rubles - in the form of a share in the company.

Alexander Solovyov was born on June 18, 1950 in the village of Alnashi, after serving in the army he worked at Udmurtavtodor, where he rose to the rank of head of department. In 2003, Solovyov was elected to the State Council of Udmurtia and was soon appointed its first deputy chairman, and four years later he became chairman of the regional government.

First, in February 2014, President Vladimir Putin appointed him acting head of the region, State Duma Vice Speaker, Secretary of the General Council of United Russia Sergei Neverov, commenting on Solovyov’s appointment, said that “the president proceeded from the professional qualities of Alexander Solovyov and the support which he possesses among the inhabitants of the republic.”

“He combines the unique qualities of a responsible business executive and a public politician with the support of the people. These qualities will be in demand at the regional level and will allow Alexander Solovyov to develop the region. We fully support this decision of the president,” Neverov noted.

In August of the same year, Solovyov won the elections with 84.84% of the votes. On the day of his arrest, Neverov said that the new acting head of the republic, Alexander Brechalov, co-chairman of the All-Russian Popular Front, had “hard work to do, the result of which should be the restoration of the trust of the residents of Udmurtia in the authorities.”

Putin fired Solovyov with the wording “due to loss of trust.”
