The Investigative Committee completed the investigation into the case of nine Tablighi Jamaat supporters in Tatarstan

The Investigative Committee (IC) in Tatarstan has completed an investigation into the criminal case of supporters of the Tablighi Jamaat organization, which is recognized as extremist in Russia. This was reported on the website of the regional SU SK.

Mubarakzyan Vafin, 29, Salavat Bayazitov, 41, Ilgiz Zagidullin, 44, Marat Sharifullin, 35, Renat Nasretdinov, 37, Gayar Sudiyarov, 45 with Ramil Sultanov, 43-year-old Lenar Ziyatdinov and 28-year-old Khadyatullo Khasanov.

According to investigators, they joined the Tablighi Jamaat in the early 2000s, knowing that the organization was recognized as extremist and banned in Russia. In 2014-2016, the defendants participated in its activities, including recruiting new members and holding meetings, the IC said in a statement.

The defendants admitted their involvement in the crime. The court took them into custody. The criminal case with the approved indictment was sent to the court for consideration on the merits.

The international religious organization Tablighi Jamaat was recognized as extremist in Russia in 2009. According to the Sova information and analytical center, this ban was unlawful, since the association is engaged in the propaganda of Islam and was not seen in any calls for violence.
