Rosstat was transferred to the Ministry of Economic Development

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the transfer of the Federal State Statistics Service to the Ministry of Economic Development. The document is published on the official portal of legal information.

As noted in the decree, this will increase the efficiency of the Rosstat system and optimize the structure of federal executive bodies. The document comes into force from the moment of signing.

The fact that the government thought to return Rosstat to subordinate the Ministry of Economic Development became known on March 22. As noted, officials are dissatisfied with the quality of statistics. In addition, it was emphasized that Rosstat delayed the publication and recounts the data, in particular, this forced the Ministry of Economic Development to postpone the transfer to the government of updated macrodrognosis.

Rosstat passed from the subordination of the Ministry of Economic Development under government control and several times: in 2004 (then the department was called the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade), in 2008 and in 2012.
