
Any owner of the smartphone knows that the fall of the device on the hard surface is fraught with serious damage to the display of the display: it can scratch, cover it with cracks or break, and the phone will have to be given into expensive repairs. However, it is possible that in the foreseeable future, smartphones will get rid of one of their main shortcomings.
According to Business Insider , a group of chemists from the University of California in Riverside has developed a material that is capable of self -healing after damage and can be used as a smartphone display coating.
The material, which is also able to stretch 50 times, is made of an elastic polymer and contains ion salt. It is based on ion-dial interaction , thanks to which, after causing damage to ions and molecules, they are attracted to each other, restoring the original structure.
The tests conducted by the researchers showed that a sample of material torn in half is able to “heal” damage after 24 hours, although traces of the cut are still noticeable in the published photograph of the recovered sample.

It is worth noting that the materials similar in its properties already exist, and LG uses a similar self -healing material as a cover of the rear surface of some smartphones. However, unlike its predecessors, the material developed by American researchers is electrical pipeline, which allows you to use it as a coating of smartphone displays.
According to the head of the CHAO Van research group, the new material may enter the market by 2020 and find use in the production of displays, as well as batteries for smartphones and other devices.
