On April 5, the Presidium of the Supreme Court of Chechnya changed the sentence of journalist Zhalaudi Geriev. The court ruled out the charge of illegal acquisition of drugs on an especially large scale. The Presidium also decided to delete the reference to the study of the results of a procedural check on Geriev's statement about the use of violence and abduction against him. This is reported by "Caucasian Knot". The defense does not agree with the decision of the court and intends to appeal against it, said lawyer Alaudi Musaev.
According to the investigation, on April 16, 2016, Geriev went to the outskirts of the village of Kurchaloy to use marijuana, where he was detained. In September, Geriev was sentenced to three years in a penal colony for large-scale drug trafficking (Part 2, Article 228 of the Criminal Code).
