A short list of Nora Gal

On April 6, the founders of the Nora Gal prize announced a short list of the best short translations from English into Russian.

According to the Prize website , in the sixth season, 80 translations were put forward for the prize, nine of them were selected in a short list:

• Maria Falikman is Bernard McLaverti. "Questions of life and death"
• Ksenia Bogdanova - Katherine Mansfield. "Daughters of the late colonel"
• Shashi Martynova - Flen O'Brien. "Ordinary people of Ireland"
• Alexander A. Averbukh - Dorothy Parker. "Young lady in green lace"
• Tatyana Ermashkevich - Terry Pratchet. "The past and future"
• Nadezhda Kazantseva - Saki (Hector Hugh Manro). "Peacekeepers"
• Natalia Krasavina - Nina Kiriki Hoffman. "Back to the roots"

The results of the Nora Gal prize season will be announced on April 26 at an evening at the Turgenev library in Moscow.

In addition to the main prize and possible special Nora Gal Awards, the novice translator, which implies a trip to the International Translation Residence in Latvia, also awarded the Nora Prize in 2016 for further work on the text of the prize. The owner of this scholarship is not included in the short list and will be declared separately.

The prize was established in 2012 by the centenary of the outstanding Russian translator Nora Gal (1912–1991). The founders of the award are its heirs, a literary critic and editor Edward Kuzmin, a literary figure and translator Dmitry Kuzmin.

Last year, the main award was awarded to Anna Blaise for the translation of the "calendar of fairy tales" Nile Gaiman. The owner of the scholarship was Alexander Samarin, the author of the translation of the story of Don Delillo "Midnight at Dostoevsky."
