The CEC of South Ossetia recognized the presidential election

The turnout in the elections of the President of South Ossetia as of 14:00 (coincides with Moscow time) exceeded 50% and, thus, the elections took place, said the head of the CEC Bella Plieva. In addition to the elections, residents also solve the issue of renaming South Ossetia into the state of Alania in a referendum.

"As of 14:00, 52.79%voted at 14:00 (time coincides with Moscow) elections throughout South Ossetia took place," she said.

Earlier, the CEC reported that the vote is without noticeable violations. These messages confirmed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Three candidates apply for the post of head of the republic: the current President Leonid Tibilov, the chairman of the parliament, the leader of the United Ossetia party Anatoly Bibilov and the KGB officer Alan Gigloev. To win the first round, the candidate needs to gain 50% plus 1 vote.

Georgia is against

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in connection with the presidential election and referendum held on Sunday in South Ossetia on the change in the name of the republic made a statement in which it condemns these processes and calls them illegitimate.

South Ossetia in Tbilisi is called the "occupied territory", where elections and referendums are not powerful.

Regarding the issue of the referendum, the Foreign Ministry noted that an attempt to change the name of the oldest region of Georgia and give it a name similar to the name of one of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation - "Republic of South Ossetia - the state of Alania" - "aimed at preparing the foundation for the illegal annexation of the region", quotes the message "Interfax" .

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry believe that "these intentions were clearly manifested in the agreement recently signed between Moscow and Tskhinvili an agreement on the accession of individual South Ossetian units in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation."
