In Sochi on April 9, a rally was held against the violation of citizens' rights to a healthy environment, organized by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
About 100 people took part in the rally, despite the bad weather. Residents of Sochi protested against a landfill on the territory of a building materials plant, which is located in close proximity to residential buildings and 200 meters from the Sochi River.
Speakers called on supervisory authorities to check the legality of the dump.
“The waste sites are not prepared. In such weather everything flows into the river. Landfill 200 meters from the river! We demand to check the regularity of the Sochi mayor’s office organizing a landfill on the territory of the former ZSM,” said Svetlana Masyakina, a participant in the rally.
The Sochi administration was represented by Deputy City Head Yuri Palamarchuk, who promised that the landfill would be removed in the next two months. According to the official, this will happen after the commissioning of two regional waste reloading sites.
“It turned out that we did not build the planned landfill... At the expense of federal funds, landfills were to be built in Belorechensk and two waste transfer sites in Sochi. To date, all this construction has been completed, but not put into operation. Therefore, these sites cannot be exploited yet,” Yuri Palamarchuk told the audience.
The official’s speech was accompanied by scans of “you’re lying,” “shame,” and “go away.” Participants in the rally said that due to the inaction of the authorities, the entire housing and communal services sector in Sochi has collapsed, also recalling that in Sochivodokanal LLC, which is criticized by Sochi residents, one of the leadership positions is occupied by a member of the family of Yuri Palamarchuk, reports Caucasian Knot .
At the end of the meeting, a resolution was adopted in which the meeting participants expressed dissatisfaction with the work of law enforcement agencies, Rosprirodnadzor, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Krasnodar Territory, Rostechnadzor, Rospotrebnadzor and declared the danger of an environmental disaster in connection with illegal landfills near the water supply sources of the Sochi and Mzymta rivers, as well as large-scale illegal construction at the resort.
In the resolution, the rally participants expressed no confidence in the head of Sochi Pakhomov and demanded his resignation. The protesters also expressed distrust and demanded the resignation of the TSB of the KSM microdistrict and the deputies.
