In the Petrozavodsk City Court on April 10, Judge Anton Levkin extended the term of arrest to the historian Yuri Dmitriev for a month. He will remain in custody until May 12, - the 7x7 correspondent reports. On the same day, another meeting was held in the court in the Dmitriev case, at which they examined the investigator’s request to restrict the time of familiarization with the case file.
On April 10, Yuri Dmitriev was brought to the meeting room several times and led under escort. At the first meeting, Judge Anton Levkin announced a 10-minute break, and after him supported the request of the prosecutor Alexei Silchenko:
- a petition for a meeting in a closed mode to satisfy, consideration of a request for extending the term of detention in respect of the accused Dmitriev to continue in a closed court hearing.
Journalists remained to wait for a decision in the corridor.
For the second time, Yuri Dmitriev was led from third to first floor, when the judge took a break again. After 15 minutes, he announced:
- under the severity of the crimes committed can hide from the preliminary investigation and court bodies, as well as affect the testimony of participants in criminal proceedings, since the victim is in close related relations with Dmitriev, due to his age, the court ruled: the request to satisfy, extend the detention of the detainees Dmitriev Yuri Alekseevich for one month, Only up to five months, that is, by May 12, 2017 inclusive.
The meeting itself without interruptions took about forty minutes. Moscow lawyer Yuri Dmitriev Viktor Anufriev called such a court a formal procedure.
- If the investigator appealed, for 98% it goes off scale that the court will satisfy. For considerations of formalism, we probably appeal this resolution. Immediately we can say that the Supreme Court of Karelia will leave a decision without change. Such is the law enforcement practice of the courts, ”says lawyer Viktor Anufriev.
While there was a court, a single picket took place in Petrozavodsk near the investigative insulator. At the intersection of Herzen Street and Lenin Avenue, the famous activist and friend of Yuri Dmitriev Andrei Litvin came out with the poster. On the poster there are multi -colored words: "Freedom to Yu. Dmitriev, who returned the grave and names of the victims of the Gosterra in the USSR from the non -existence of the grave."
On the same day, at 15:00, the court gathered for the second time to consider the investigator’s request “On the restriction of the time to familiarize yourself with the case file” - according to the investigator, Yuri Dmitriev and his lawyer to get acquainted with the case for too long and do it on purpose. The investigator asked the court to read the accused no more than two days, he can do it quickly: Dmitriev has a higher education and has experience working with documents. As the lawyer said, Yuri Dmitriev makes extracts - his fate depends on this.
- My opinion is that investigators and the prosecutor’s office are very in a hurry to send the case to court faster. This business does not tolerate haste. As the prosecutor and investigators correctly say, he [Yuri Dmitriev] is accused of committing especially serious crimes. Therefore, here every word, each page requires careful study, comparison, analysis, and not just ran through the business, as they demand from us, ”Viktor Anufriev believes.

Judge Anton Levkin also heard the arguments of the investigator here: Yuri Dmitriev should read the case by April 14.
- From the day the investigation is completed, we actually had the opportunity to get acquainted with [with the case] 13 working days. Of these, four days the investigator did not come to Dmitriev. Four more days came only for three hours. This is done when they study the work for a month, two, six months, but there is simply arbitrariness here, ”the lawyer said.
The judge rejected the oncoming complaint of a lawyer who asked for a second examination. Victor Anufriev will appeal both decisions of the judge. According to him, Karelia is still making him "not a very favorable impression on the implementation of the legislation of the Russian Federation."
The historian and chairman of the Karelian branch of the Memorial International Society Yuri Dmitriev was arrested on December 13, 2016. Scientists, human rights activists, journalists, Orthodox priests and participants in international days of memory of victims of great terror were supported by his support. Dmitriev’s case was discussed on February 9, 2017 during a visiting meeting of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation. The Council has not yet proposed any decisions in the case. Yuri Dmitriev, as it became known on March 9, 2017, was charged with new accusations: in addition to the production of pornographic materials depicting minors, he is charged with article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“The commission of depraved actions without the use of violence”) and 222 (“illegal storage of firearms”).
