Canada and Great Britain proposed imposing new sanctions against Russia because of Syria

British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau advocated the introduction of new sanctions against Russia in connection with the situation in Syria.

Johnson plans to convince the leaders of the G7 countries of imposing new sanctions. Trudeau said that Russia “must be given responsibility” for actions in Syria and supporting Assad regime. He emphasized that Canada insists on the need to leave Bashar al -Assad from his post.

Trudeau also noted that Canada fully supports the US decision to deliver a missile blow to the military base of the Syrian forces in connection with a chemical attack in the Idlib province, the responsibility for which the United States is assigned to Assad.

On April 7, 2017, the United States struck a missile air base in Syria. According to the Pentagon, the blow was inflicted on a base on which aircraft with chemical weapons were based.

Russia criticized the actions of the United States and called them an act of aggression and a violation of international law. Russia continues to maintain the regime of Bashar Assad and denies the use of chemical weapons.
