In March, Olesya Shmagun became the winner of the independent Editorial Board Award for publishing in Novaya Gazeta the correspondence of the lawyer Andrei Pavlov, who was involved in the Magnitsky case.

“This is a text of a very complex fate, a lot of time and effort has been invested in it, so it is especially pleasant to receive an award for it. We started working on it almost a year ago - we sorted through the archive of personal mail, which belongs to the lawyer Andrey Pavlov, ”Shmagun says in a comment on the award page.

She also noted that Pavlov himself tried to ban the release of the material through the court.

Egor Skovoroda (Mediazona) also became a March laureate for publishing a story about an American woman who managed to escape from an Old Believer settlement in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, 15 years after she ended up there. In addition, Andrey Zakharov and Polina Rusyaeva (RBC) received the award for publishing an article about the creation of a media holding associated with the pro-Kremlin troll factory.

Since September 2016, the Editorial Board, an independent award for supporting professional journalism, founded by the charitable organization Sreda Foundation, has been awarded monthly to the authors of the best journalistic works that meet the high standards of the profession, according to a professional jury.

There are three or four winners a month. It is not a publication or an editorial office that is awarded, but a specific author for a specific journalistic text published in any available way: in the media, on a personal website, on a social network. The audience and the number of readings are not the main thing. The main thing is a high professional level. The minimum award is $2,000.
