The Russian Agricultural Center is alarmed by the state of winter crops in the North Caucasus; this region is one of the major grain producers. Of the more than 2 million hectares of winter crops surveyed in the North Caucasus District, on 961,300 hectares the number of dead plants was about 50%, on 160,400 hectares - more than 50%. “In the Stavropol Territory, winter crops overwintered extremely unsatisfactorily on 783,100 hectares; on 943,500 hectares, crops died on almost half of the area,” the report says.

In general, winter crops weathered the winter well throughout the country. According to the Rosselkhozcenter, out of a total area sown with winter crops of 16.969 million hectares, 12.782 million hectares (75%) were surveyed. More than 52% of the surveyed areas received a score of 5 points, which indicates that there are no areas of dead plants in the fields and the thinning of the stems is visually invisible. On 31% of the areas, the thinning of stems was small, the number of dead plants did not exceed 25% (4 points). The death of about 50% of plants and significant thinning of stems were found on 14% of the areas. On 2% of the areas, more than half of the crops died. Few plants survived on 1% of the area.

In the Central Federal District, 96% of the surveyed winter crop areas are in good condition, in the Northwestern Federal District - 93%, in the Southern Federal District - 94%, in the Volga Federal District - 79%, in the Ural Federal District - 90%, in the Siberian Federal District - 99.5%, in the Far Eastern Federal District - 100%. This year, the Ministry of Agriculture expects to collect about 110 million tons of grain, compared to 120.7 million tons a year earlier.
