Moscow ranks first in the purchase of used cars among all regions of the Russian Federation

In the Moscow car market in January-February 2017, 46,305 used cars were sold, which is 27.7% less than the number sold in the capital a year earlier.

The second place among the regions is occupied by the Moscow region, where sales of used cars decreased by 23% over two months and amounted to 40,662 units.

The third place in sales of used cars is occupied by the Krasnodar region - 35,494 cars were sold there in January-February 2017, 7.7% less than a year earlier, reports Autostat Info .

St. Petersburg is in fourth position - in annual comparison, the used car market there decreased by 19%, amounting to 27,411 units.

Fifth place is in the Omsk region, where 20,283 used cars were sold, 94% more than in 2016.

The places in the second five were distributed as follows:

6 - Rostov region (19,818 units, -15.5%),

7 - Sverdlovsk region (18,275 units, -22.6%),

8 - Bashkortostan (17,865 units, -7%),

9 - Novosibirsk region (17,260 units, -4.7%),

10 - Tatarstan (16,503 units, -19%).

The used car market will continue to grow

The used car market in Russia in 2016 grew by 6%, amounting to 5.2 million units, and in 2017 it is expected to grow by 11.5%, to 5.8 million cars.

As Vedomosti writes, citing data from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) analysts, the growth in used car sales will continue until 2020, although its pace will slow down.

The growth of the used car market is driven by a fall in sales of new cars - by 2020, the Russian car fleet will have 36% fewer cars under five years of age (6.9 million instead of the current 10.7 million).

The new car market has been declining for four years. In 2016, 1.43 million new ones were sold, and 5.2 million used ones. This is facilitated not only by crisis phenomena, but also by the formation of a civilized market for the sale of used cars - a significant part of them is already sold through official dealers, which ensures speed, security and legal purity of the transaction.

However, according to experts, as soon as Russians’ incomes go up, the country’s vehicle fleet will begin to get younger.
