The alleged perpetrator of the terrorist attack in the St. Petersburg metro, Akbarzhon Jalilov, was deprived of Russian citizenship. Republic reports this with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the department, Jalilov’s father provided “knowingly false information” when applying for a Russian passport. What information was provided is not specified.

In 2015, Jalilov went to Turkey “to visit his uncle.” According to RBC, he was deported from this country in 2016.

According to Reuters, acquaintances of the alleged terrorist said that he left St. Petersburg to visit his uncle in Antalya in November 2015. The uncle himself insists that he lived there only until September 2015, and knew nothing about his nephew’s visit. In addition, there were rumors among his restaurant colleagues that Jalilov could have left for Syria.

On April 3, an explosion occurred on the stretch between the Sennaya Ploshchad and Technological Institute stations, killing 15 people and injuring dozens. The investigation concluded that a native of Kyrgyzstan, Akbarzhon Jalilov, detonated an explosive device that he was carrying with him. He also left an explosive device at the Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro station, which was defused.

According to Kommersant's sources, immediately before the explosion, Jalilov called Abror Azimov, suspected of organizing the terrorist attack. According to them, Azimov was the only member of the terrorist underground with whom Jalilov contacted by phone before the explosion.
