Nine followers of Tablighi Jamaat were sentenced in Tatarstan

On April 20, the Naberezhnye Chelny City Court sentenced nine supporters of the religious organization Tablighi Jamaat, which is recognized as extremist in Russia. All of them were found guilty of participating in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2) and sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. This was reported on the website of the information and analytical center "Sova".

Ilgiz Zagidullin was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 3 years and 9 months with restriction of freedom for a period of 10 months, Lenar Ziyatdinov was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in a colony with restriction of freedom for 9 months, Marat Sharifullin - to 3 years and 3 months with restriction of freedom for 8 months, Ramil Sultanov and Salavat Bayazitov - to 3 years with restriction of freedom for 8 months, Renat Nasretdinova - to 2 years and 8 months with restriction of freedom for 7 months, Mubarakzyan Vafin - to 2 years and 6 months with restriction of freedom for 7 months, Gayara Sudiyarova - to 2 years with restriction of freedom for 7 months, Khadyatullo Khasanova - to 2 years with restriction of freedom for 6 months.

According to investigators, they joined the Tablighi Jamaat in the early 2000s, knowing that the organization was recognized as extremist and banned in Russia. In 2014-2016, the defendants participated in its activities, including by recruiting new members and holding meetings.

The international religious organization Tablighi Jamaat was recognized as extremist in Russia in 2009. According to the SOVA center, this ban was unlawful, since the association is engaged in the propaganda of Islam and was not seen in any calls for violence.
