US Ministry of Justice charged the Russian programmer
The US prosecutor’s office at eight points accused the Russian programmer Peter Levashov of hacking several thousand computers using Kelihos botnet. This was reported on the website of the US Department of Justice.
The accusation was approved by the jury of the city of Bridgeport of Connecticut. According to the prosecution, Levashov used about 109 thousand infected computers to collect personal data, massively send spam, as well as establish other malicious programs.
According to the Ministry of Justice, Botnet Kelihos created and distributed more than 2.5 thousand spam messages in 24 hours, in which criminal schemes were advertised.
The Ministry of Justice’s report also says that the US authorities intend to achieve Levashov's extradition.
Earlier, the Spanish police reported that the United States is suspected by Levashov of involvement in hacker attacks related to the US presidential election. In the report of the Ministry of Justice Levashov was mentioned only as the head of Kelihos.
Levashov was detained during a vacation in Barcelona on April 9.
