The head of the Federal Property Management Agency called for stopping killing confiscated animals

The head of the Federal Property Management Agency Dmitry Pristankov during a meeting of the Ecology Year Committee in the Russian Federation complained that his department had to put up auctions or destroy animals seized from poachers. According to him, this happens in cases where animals do not fall under environmental legislation, RIA Novosti reports.

Currently, mammals that are not included in the Red Book and are not protected by international conventions, during confiscation, poachers fall into the balance of the Federal Property Management Agency. At the same time, the agency has no authority for gratuitous transfer of such animals to environmental or scientific organizations.

“We have a situation with a trot that was seized from poachers without a leg. The non -profit fund conducted an operation, nursed it, and then the court decided to withdraw it from the fund and put it up for auction. Nobody needs such a lynx. The fund was ready to take it free of charge, the court decided to put it up for sale,” Pristanov cited the example. He emphasized that if no one acquires an animal at the auction, then by law the department is obliged to destroy it.

To get out of this situation, they propose to allow the department to transfer animals to environmental, cultural and scientific organizations for educational purposes. Moreover, this is not only about state, but also commercial and non -profit institutions.

The president’s special representative on environmental protection, ecology and transport Sergey Ivanov called what is happening lacuna in the legislation, "which must be urgently corrected." "I think for many it is close to shock, to find out what is happening in the law," he added.
