The Moscow City Court rejected a complaint against the arrest of a mathematician accused of calling for terrorism

On April 25, the Moscow City Court refused to satisfy the defense's appeal against the decision of the Presnensky Court of Moscow to detain mathematician Dmitry Bogatov, accused of preparing to organize mass riots, calls for mass riots and terrorism, for two months. Mediazona reports this from the courtroom.

During the court hearing, Bogatov’s defense petitioned to transfer him to house arrest, or to release him from custody on personal guarantee from the president of the international association of veterans of the Alpha anti-terror unit, Sergei Goncharov, but the court rejected all petitions.

A resident of Moscow, mathematician Dmitry Bogatov was accused of calling for mass riots due to aggressive calls posted under the pseudonym “Ayrat Bashirov” on the SysAdmins.ru forum to go to Red Square on April 2, 2017. The calls were sent from Bogatov's IP, but Bogatov is an exit node operator for the Tor network, which means that any user could write from his IP. After the court’s initial refusal on April 7 to take Bogatov into custody, the next day he was charged with justifying terrorism (Article 202.2 of the Criminal Code) and preparing to organize mass riots (Part 1, Article 30, Part 1, Article 212 of the Criminal Code). As a result, on April 10, the court decided to arrest Bogatov for 2 months.

According to Mediazona, today, before the meeting, the defense was given printouts of conversations between a Mediazona correspondent and a user of the SysAdmins.ru forum, who writes under the name “Ayrat Bashirov.” According to Mediazona, he took responsibility for publishing the posts that interested the investigation and rejected suggestions of an acquaintance or connection with Dmitry Bogatov.
