The dollars found at the head of the deputy head of the "T" of T. Dmitry Zakharchenko were first in firms and banks associated with Russian Railways. This was reported by Rosbalt with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies.
It was possible to track the origin of money thanks to their packages. Zakharchenko kept banknotes in plastic bags of 200 thousand dollars with codes and seals of the US Federal Reserve System. A request sent through the Bank of Russia in the Fed replied that this money was ordered by two Russian banks. "According to the source, they are considered to be associated with a group of businessmen who control firms who" sat "for many years in the contracts of Russian Railways, its" subsidiaries "structures and received billions of rubles." Then a significant part of the funds was cashed out by these banks.
According to the investigation, the money was transferred to Zakharchenko as a fee to him and "a number of his younger colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs" for the protection of these companies. As the source said, in the summer of 2016, Zakharchenko, having learned about the Suspicions of the FSB regarding these companies and personally to him, began to prepare the transfer of money to Switzerland. Temporarily the colonel placed funds in an apartment issued for a half -sister.
On September 9, 2016, Zakharchenko was detained and arrested the next day. He was charged under Articles 285 (abuse of authority), 290 (receiving a bribe) and 294 Criminal Code (obstruction of the investigation). As reported, during the search, the colonel seized over $ 120 million and 2 million euros in cash. Zakharchenko himself noted that the apartment where the money was stored belongs to his sister.
On September 16, it became known that the TFR requested the federal reserve system of the United States about which of the Russian banks he ordered a currency seized in the apartment of the colonel's sister.
On September 26, the New Gazeta with reference to the data provided by Banker Herman Gorbuntsov, who previously worked with Zakharchenko, reported that he was involved in multibillion -dollar thefts in Russian Railways . It was stated that the initial persons engaged in theft in the Russian Railways and laundering the money received monthly paid Zakharchenko 150 thousand euros. Later, the colonel became a full partner of the company's contractors. “According to my estimates, tens of billions of rubles were abducted annually on the contracts of Russian Railways,” Gorbuntsov remarked. “So the money found at the colonel is fully consistent with these scale.”
According to the banker, his former partners Valery Markelov and Boris Asherovich, as well as Andrei Kapivin, adviser to the ex-president of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin, were involved in thefts.
Having studied the database provided by Gorbuntsov, the "new" came to the conclusion that Zakharchenko could be related to transactions worth more than $ 250 million. Some of them, however, could not have done to the colonel, but to other persons. In addition, notes the publication, there are documents confirming the transfer of 800 thousand dollars to the Cyprus company Ancillmar Ltd, whose details Zakharchenko gave him to transfer money.
