60 years ago, on May 3, 1957, after a 14-year exile in Central Asia, the first echelons with Karachays arrived in the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region. This became possible after the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On the transformation of the Cherkess Autonomous Region into the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region" dated January 9, 1957. In total, about 80 thousand Karachays returned to their homeland. May 3rd is celebrated as the Day of Revival of the Karachai people.
