On April 26, the Odessa City Council renamed dozens of streets, the names of which were already changed by a year earlier by order of the then governor of the region Mikhail Saakashvili. Saakashvili called the streets to be renamed according to the law on decommunization, the names of famous figures of the Ukrainian national movement, in particular Nikolai Mikhnovsky, Dmitry Dontsov, Elena Teliga, Roman Shukhevich, as well as the dead ATO fighters. The City Council replaced these names with new, not Soviet. At the same time, the previous names were returned to some streets - for example, the Hundreds of Heavenly Avenue again became Marshal Zhukov, and the Street of Heroes Krut - Valentina Tereshkova.

Odessa’s self-defense turned to the Primorsky district court of the city with a demand to cancel the resolution of the City Council as illegal, and on the 28th Judge Andrei Boychuk satisfied the lawsuit.
