year 2012. "March of Millions" in Russian cities

Five years ago, on May 6, 2012, on the day of the inauguration of Vladimir Putin, who was elected president for a third term, the March of Millions took place in Moscow and a number of other Russian cities. In Moscow, demonstrators with the slogan "For honest power! For Russia without Putin!" passed from Kaluga to Bolotnaya Square. The procession was organized by Sergei Udaltsov, Alexei Navalny and Boris Nemtsov. According to the organizers, up to 100 thousand people took part in the procession (according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs - 10-15 thousand).

On the approach to Bolotnaya Square, clashes began with the police due to the fact that the authorities violated the previously agreed scheme for holding the rally. The police acted extremely harshly. 450 people were detained, including the organizers of the action. Many of the detainees were subsequently prosecuted in the so-called Bolotnaya case. Udaltsov was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison on charges of organizing riots.
