Those who wanted to go to Sakharov Avenue from the Red Gate metro station - and people began to gather at the exit from the station half an hour before the rally start - had to go along the alleys to Turgenevskaya Square. It was there that the framework of metal detectors stood. At all the streets and lanes adjacent to the site of the rally, police officers were on duty, in the parked trucks with the inscription “People” and the buses of the rally, riot police waited.

The sounds of the world classics were heard from the column for the beginning of the column: the musical theme from the film “Godfather”, the melody of the song of Barbara Streisand “Woman in Love”. At the entrance of the rally participants, they met with flags: supporters of the politician Vyacheslav Maltsev held a banner with a red checkmark on a white background. Imperial symbolism, Andreevsky and Russian flags, black and green attributes of the national resistance association (left-wing nationalists) and the red-black flags of the Russian socialist movement were also fluttered on Sakharov Avenue.

Protesters brought posters with them in support of the political prisoners: Ivan Nepomnya, Sergey Udaltsov, Dmitry Demushkin. The official part of the rally began with the appeal of its organizers to those present, who had already gathered several thousand by that time (according to official figures, about a thousand people came to the action, according to the organizers - about ten thousand). While the “godfather” played, two students told Medusa that they first came to Sakharov Avenue today to express a protest. “We only go to authorized rallies so as not to fly out of the university,” they admitted. Two women, having heard our conversation with the students, also admitted that "not brave enough to attend unresolved rallies." “Five years ago, I was on Bolotnaya and saw all this disgrace with my own eyes. Now I go to Sakharov out of habit, ”said one of them.

The organizers called on the participants to go today or in the coming days to the place, “where the acceleration of the peaceful demonstration of May 2012 passed,” and tie the white ribbons there, which were distributed today on Sakharov Avenue.

Former deputy Gennady Gudkov told from the stage that a provocation had occurred on May 6, "because the authorities decided not to start a dialogue with their people, but to launch repression." The journalist and human rights activist Zoya Svetova once again reminded of the political prisoners who are sitting in Russian prisons, and remembered the slogan of 1968: “Be real - demand the impossible.”

One of the defendants in the “swamp business” Alexander Margolin - he served three and a half years - thanked all those who support the political prisoners from the stage. “We are here again, which means that the movement continues,” he said. “While we are one, we are invincible,” the crowd supported him.

Human rights activist Lev Ponomarev drew attention to a criminal case of an infringement of the police officer, which was initiated after the rally on March 26, 2017, and demanded to terminate the courts. “More than a hundred investigators work on a case, which can become even larger than“ swamp ”. Sergei Mitrokhin from Yabloko demanded the immediate liberation of Bolotnaya prisoners and stated that "only weak power is dangerous." The rally was also performed by the leader of the protest movement of truckers Andrei Bazhutin - he said that their protest continues, and called for him to support. Ildar Dadin rose on the stage. To the cries and applause of the crowd, he said: “I see here honest caring people. I love you. "

Almost at the end of the rally, the Arkady Kot group came out and performed something like the unspoken anthem of the Russian protest movement. The musicians sang along in the crowd, and at that moment already released “swamps” came to the stage: Maxim Luzyanin, Alexei Gaskarov, Nikolai Caucasian, Andrei Barabanov and Ilya Gushchin.
