From May 12 to 14, the Moscow Documentary Cinema Center will host a series of shows of films about the modern motherhood “Matriarch” (the organizers of this microfilia are a team of the 2MorROW festival and the Henry Bealle Foundation) in the program - five new game full -length paintings, the heroes of which are mothers (bad, good, surrogate and relatives, also women who do not want to experience joy/burden motherhood). Also in the program there is a cognitive dock on the problem of abortion in the conservative state of the Mississippi and a 39-minute video installation of Maria's one-year-old “hunger” (it is not possible to retell this video filemic with Julia Kristeva and Suzan Salekiman).

Astrid is happy to disgrace: she has a successful career of a stand-up comedian, a loving husband (and her part-time manager), a little daughter with smart eyes, a good apartment-and the second child on the way. Astrid has long turned her personal life into an inexhaustible source of new gags for a merry audience. But the next ultrasound shows that the child should be born with Down syndrome, and the following tests bring new bad news. The life of the family turns into a real hell, and everyone sees a way out of it in their own way. To carry your cross with pride to the end or to rid yourself and the world from the next deliberate suffering - the opinions of Astrid and her husband for the first time diverge radically. But nature and the law were ordered so that the last word remains with a woman. And in the case of astride, this word must be pronounced not only in hospital walls, but also in public.

“24 weeks” is the second film of the German director Anna Zora Berrane, dedicated to motherhood (the previous one was shot in the third year, this is already a thesis, and both participants and winners of Berlinale). Human stories and related legal issues are what interests Berrane. From afar, Germany seems to be a paradise to protect everyone's rights and freedoms. But the first film of Berraled “Two Mothers” made adjustments to this myth: for an hour and a half, the female couple, having received a refusal in all institutions, tried to independently find a sperm donor to conceive their unborn child. In “24 weeks” (this film, like the previous one, is based on the traumatic experience of a real couple) Berriavus studies the problem with late abortions in Germany, which are “illegal, but not punishable”. A few doctors agree to terminate the pregnancy in the 24th week, and they try not to advertise this practice. In the film, the role of such a doctor is played by a real gynecologist who asked not to shoot his face and not mention the name.
