The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation established that the collapse of the Su-33 on the aircraft-wire cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" did not occur due to the poor-quality cable of the aerofinisher. This was told by the representative of Severstal, which produces components for this system, RIA Novosti reports .
The military department, which is investigating the causes of the Su-33 crash, emphasized that "there are no complaints about the quality of the rope."
As Kommersant wrote earlier, the Ministry of Defense believed that the Su-33 collapse occurred due to a cable break. The investigation considered three versions of the causes of the accident. As the main version, the newspaper called the pilot's mistake. This information was rejected in the Ministry of Defense, explaining that the investigation was ongoing, so the commission had not yet made preliminary conclusions.
The investigation also suggested that the cable could break due to production marriage. The source did not exclude that the batch of cables was not tested.
The third version is associated with an incorrect pressing of the cable, which was replaced after the previous incident on the cruiser, when MiG-29K was lost in mid-November.
In December 2016, the Su-33 fighter rolled out of the deck of the cruiser when going to land. The pilot managed to eject.
A group of ships of the Russian fleet, led by the aircraft-wing cruiser, Admiral Kuznetsov entered the regions of the North-Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea on October 15, 2016 and returned to Severomorsk in February 2017. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the campaign of ships was his personal initiative. According to RBC estimates , from 7.5 billion to 10 billion rubles were allocated from the Russian budget on the campaign of ships.
