The White House denied that Trump turned to Komi with such a request. "Although the president has repeatedly expressed his attitude to General Flynn as a beautiful person who served and defended his country, the president never asked Mr. Komi or anyone else to complete any investigation, including any investigation against General Flynn," said the representative of the US administration. As the official emphasized, Trump respects law enforcement agencies and the investigations that they conduct.

The chairman of the US Senate Committee on Intelligence, Richard Burr, also expressed doubt about the reality of the Komi note. “I am absolutely sure that the director had to tell us such a request, but he never mentioned this,” the Washington Examiner newspaper quotes Burra’s statement. “That's why I have to believe it, someone has to do more than just based on anonymous sources in this matter.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Committee of the House of Representatives for Supervision and State Reform, Jason Chaffets sent a letter to the FBI demanding no later than May 24 to submit notes from the meetings of Trump and Komi.

On May 10, Trump sent Komi a letter with a resignation message. In it, the president said that the director of the FBI cannot cope with his duties . “Although I am very grateful for the fact that three times you informed me under different circumstances that I am not under investigation, I still agree with the assessment of the Ministry of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau,” the document said.

Many American politicians connected the resignation of Komi with the investigation of the ties of the Trump team with Russia.
