Opposition leader Alexei Navalny called businessman Alisher Usmanov to a debate. Live on his YouTube channel , he stated that he considered Usmanov's video message posted on May 18 as a threat.
“RBC and Dozhd wrote that they were ready to organize some kind of debate and if I was afraid to come to such a debate, I was asked many times. Not afraid. I am also addressing Alisher Burkhanovich Usmanov (in “you”). I say yes, I am ready to participate in such debates,” Navalny said. He noted that he would like to meet Usmanov in his studio.
- On May 18, Alisher Usmanov posted a video message in which he, referring to "you", called Navalny a criminal, an ignoramus and a loser. “Never in my life is it possible for someone like you to prove that I am a criminal, that I am a thief. <...> Unlike you, I paid for everything with my work, my abilities, honesty, by the way. And you will never be able to slander me in your life. You still have to answer to me, Lesha, ”said Usmanov.
- The conflict between Usmanov and Navalny occurred after the publication of an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Foundation of Alexei Navalny about the "secret empire" of Dmitry Medvedev. In particular, it said that Usmanov gave people close to Medvedev a manor on Rublyovka. The FBK called the gift a bribe. Usmanov said it was a good deal and sued Navalny.
