The President of the United States Donald Trump calls the investigation of the connections of employees of his election headquarters with the Russian Federation the reason for the split of the country and "witch hunt". So he responded to the appointment of a special prosecutor who will oversee this investigation.
With the conclusion of Trump, it should be agreed - the United States is really split. But the reason for this split is not at all in the very investigation of the possible connections of employees of the American president with Russian officials, diplomats and scouts. The reason is primarily in relation to the truth. In the very desire to know the truth. And in this sense, this is a very Russian split.
The main "red line" today is not between those who are sure that there were no connections, and those who are convinced of the opposite. She separates those who want to know the truth, from those who consider it harmful - and, it seems, the President of the United States himself belongs to the latter. And in this sense, Vladimir Putin won a real victory over America. Because he imposed Russian to many Americans, I would even say a Soviet attitude to the truth.
Soviet people - like Russians today - were well aware of what actually happened in their country. They knew about the Gulag, about the repressions, about which idiots they managed - this is shown by the diary records, the reports of the NKVD, and the perception of the decisions of party congresses that condemned the "personality cult". But only this truth seemed harmful, they did not want to think about her - because she turned into a conflict with her own conscience or what instead of her. That is why the most stubborn ones have been accusing not Stalin for a long time and not themselves, but Khrushchev, who raised his hand on the legacy of the leader.
The Russians, without a doubt, for the most part, everyone also knows perfectly well. And that the country is rushing into the abyss, and that the Crimea is stolen, and that in the Donbass their country does not protect the "Russian world", but is engaged in banditry. There is no doubt that Russia creates in Syria - how there was no particular doubt that Russia was doing in Chechnya. But in the atmosphere of non -interference and indifference, the unwillingness to know more than the knowledge itself. If the regime falls, we will witness the next collective insight of the "deceived nation." If they stand, the Russians will remain silent accomplices in the crimes of their rulers.
The problem of Russians is not that they are deceived, but that they turn into the people of liars every time. It is ashamed, but convenient. And this desire for moral comfort we are now observing a number of representatives of the American elite and society. After all, the investigation itself is terrible, but its result and consequences. Of course, if it turns out that there was nothing, everything will be fine. But what to do if it turns out that the king is naked? And since there is a probability of such a verdict, then maybe it’s better not to conduct any investigations at all? Investigate only what is safe? What does not threaten remorse, a political earthquake, the need to answer himself to the question: "Who did I vote for? I actually did not know or only pretended?"
One can only hope that the famous American system will be more effective than Russian, that American society will be healthier than Russian. Because otherwise Putin will be everywhere. Each will have Putin.
