The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow awarded compensation of 200,000 rubles for moral damage caused to the brother of a suspect killed in police custody. The plaintiff sought payment of 3.3 million rubles. His interests were represented by the lawyers of the Committee against Torture.
Killed by the police - a resident of the Moscow region Farrukh Urozov - was detained in September 2014. He was suspected of using violence against a six-year-old girl. Urozov was taken to the Solnechnogorsk police department, where he was beaten to death.
The examination showed that the suspect was hit more than 75 times and 12 ribs were broken. The cause of death was multiple trauma and strangulation.
During the investigation, three police officers were arrested. The court found them guilty under the articles of “causing grievous bodily harm, negligently resulting in the death of a person” and “abuse of official authority”. Two policemen received seven years and four months in prison, another was imprisoned for 7.5 years.
