The head of Nizhny Novgorod Ivan Karninin decided to resign, according to the website of the city hall. According to the message, a statement with a request to dismiss him from his position Carnin's wrote to the City Duma on Monday. It is assumed that the request for the resignation will be considered on Wednesday, May 24.

“In January of this year, I turned 60 years old - the time when it was customary to retire. I have worked in the municipal authorities for more than 25 years - this is a long time,” the Carnina’s words are given on the city hall’s website. “We have two very responsible events in the life of the city ahead, which require complete concentration and dedication, so I made a decision to leave the post of head of the city in order to give way to young people,” the mayor explained.

Carnin, who was elected chairman of the City Duma and the head of Nizhny Novgorod in early October 2015, added that after leaving the post of mayor, he will still remain a deputy and will give "all his strength to work for the benefit of his voters and his hometown."

In an interview with the media, Carnin confirmed that his wife has two apartments in the United States. However, he indicated that he has nothing to do with this real estate, since he and his wife have been divorced since March 2015. At the same time, Karninin claimed that the money for the purchase of foreign real estate was earned legally. According to him, both apartments in the United States were bought during his work in a commercial structure. Navalny noted that in order to earn $ 2 million in five years, Carnin was supposed to receive a salary of $ 400 thousand a year, or 33 thousand dollars a month. However, according to the official of the official, his official income for 2015 amounted to 4.7 million rubles.
